Developed the first community-based diabetes education class in BC

Took a leadership role to help Canadian Diabetes Association develop Canada’s first and only Chinese Language Diabetes Information Line which provides information and referral services on diabetes and its management throughout Canada.

Reviewed and proof-read the translation of several Chinese pamphlets. They have been acclaimed by professional translators, and are widely used in Diabetes education centres, hospitals, clinics, and community organizations throughout Canada.

Participated to translate and adapt the Signature Program into Chinese. The program is to train volunteers speakers to speak on the topic of diabetes prevention and management with accurate, up-to-date diabetes information.

Served as a spokesperson for the Chinese services of Canadian Diabetes Association on the media and other organizations.

Hepatitis

Formed the BC Hepatitis B Society in 1999 to advocate for people live with Hepatitis B. Result: The provincial government expanded the free Hepatitis B vaccination program to cover more BC residents.

Participated in the Steering Committee of the BC Hepatitis Services for Strategies and Solutions for Improving Access to Hepatitis C Treatment and Care in BC

Work with the Hainan Province (China) to start their Universal Hepatitis B Vaccination Program

Acupuncture

The first MD and certified acupuncturist in Canada

Develop curriculum and train individuals interested in becoming licensed acupuncturists in the Pre-licensed Mandatory Courses provided by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of B.C.

Established guidelines and code of ethics for practicing acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners to maintain a high level of professional care for British Columbians

Topic: Building a successful acupuncture business: reflecting on 32 years of practice

Dr. Hong Fei Lin has been practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for over 30 years in the U.S. Her own clinic is located in the prestigious Cherry Creek of Denver, Colorado. She has distinguished her practice with her unusual combination of educations in Western and Chinese medicines. Dr. Lin obtained her M.D. in 1984 from Sun, Yat Sen University of Medical Sciences, one of the top medical schools in China, and her master’s degree in Biomedicine with a concentration in Acupuncture in 1987 from her alma mater’s university.

After over 30 years of helping thousands of patients restore their health, Dr. Lin condensed her experiences into ten steps that have consistently brought the most dramatic impact for her patients. Dr. Lin designed this specialty program for middle-aged patients and for patients who have had complicated, chronic health issues that have persistently dogged them.

YEMENG CHEN, Ph.D. (China), Dipl. OM (NCCAOM), L.Ac, FICAE, is President of New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, President of the National Federation of Chinese TCM Organizations (NFCTCMO), and the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Complementary Medicine & Alternative Healthcare and International Executive Editor of Chinese Medicine & Culture (English). Dr. Chen has enthusiastically participated in numerous worldwide and nationwide activities in the Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine profession which include the following: Immediately past Chair of the Accreditation Commission of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), an Executive Member of Presidium of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), Vice-Director of Head Acupuncture Professional Committee and Standing Council member of Education Steering Committee, WFCMS, Vice President of World Traditional Medicine Forum, and also a Guest Professor in Shanghai and Jianxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Academy of Integrative Medicine in Fudan University. He was vice chair of the New York State Board for Acupuncture, appointed by the New York State Education Department and was a recipient of Pearl Wisdom Award by Acupuncture Society of New York (ASNY) (2015) and Sailing Award for International Exchange of Traditional Chinese Medicine by World Federation of TCM Services and Trade (2020).

He once worked as an instructor in the former Shanghai Medical University — now known as Fudan University — and practiced as a physician in the affiliated Huashan Hospital. During his time at the hospital, he received extensive clinical experience through his mentor, the well-known Prof. You-An Fang. Fang’s Acupuncture is now on the Shanghai Municipal Government Intangible Cultural Inheritage List. He has published more than 60 research papers in various medical journals in different countries, seven of which were in SCI journals. He has also publishedThe Effectiveness of Acupuncture Treatment on Various Diseases(1990) andGuide of Consulting Acupuncture(1994) and in 1992 he participated in writing two large-scale reference works:New Edition of Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion andComplete Works of Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion. He is also a co-author of other seven books such asDiversification of Acupuncture Practice in the U.S. (2016), Nutrition & Integrative Medicine: A Primer for Clinicians (2018), and Overview of World Chinese Medicine Education (2019). He has been a Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Chief Translator in English edition of Diagnostics in Chinese Medicine, World Textbook Series for Chinese Medicine Core Curriculum (2019), and one of Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Medicine Diagnostics, English Textbook Series of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (2019). Dr. Chen has been a reviewer of ICD-10 TM code and Chinese medicine Terminology invited by World Health Organization (WHO) and a member of TCM Expert Committee of People’s Medical Publishing House.

Dr. Hai He Tian, MD(China), Ph.D, Professor. President of American TCM Association (ATCMA),President of TCM American Alumni Association (TCMAAA), Founding President of American Alumni Association of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, (BUCM), visiting professor and distinguished clinical expert of BUCM, the vice-chairman of supervision board of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies(WFCMS), He studied at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine in 1982, and moved to USA in 1997. He has been giving more than 300 lectures nationally and internationally. He published more than 60 papers and 20 books as author or coauthor. Currently he is practicing in Florida, USA.

Topic: Acupuncture Pilot Study –Acupuncture for Post-Covid Symptoms

Dr. Kevin Lu, D.TCM, B.M, graduated from Guangzhou University of TCM in double major of TCM & acupuncture with degree of medicine and in acupuncture science. He started practicing TCM and acupuncture in Vancouver since 2004 and teaching TCM and acupuncture courses in Western Canadian Institution of TCM and Acupuncture, currently at Tzu Chi International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCICTCM). During the last ten years he has given presentations and talks in public libraries, community center and radio program on philosophy, medicine, and science. Dr. Lu is currently the vice-president of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists Society, director of ATCMA (Association of TCM and Acupuncturists of BC) and board member of CACRA (Canada Anti-Cancer Rehabilitation Association). Dr. Lu is specialized in treating chronic pain and autoimmune disorders using acupuncture and herbal medicine. His doctoral degree study is on acupuncture treatment for autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and related diseases.

Dr. David Dong Liu is a professor at Georgian college’s Acupuncture program. From 2017 to 2019, David was a member of the Neurosciences Initiative Steering Committee. He has been teaching and practicing Tai Chi, Qigong, Acupuncture, and functional rehabilitation exercises for over 20 years.
