喜士定西街58号是一栋位于温哥华市中心东端，十层高的小区型社会房屋和卫生中心
[加拿大乐活网Lahoo.ca 讯]数十年来，贫困、无家可归、毒瘾，以及精神健康服务的迫切需求，已成为温哥华市中心东端的特征。今年11月，七位着名艺术家与温哥华华埠基金会将携手合作支持创新的社会房屋和卫生中心项目 — 喜士定西街58号，让该项目成为加拿大各城市的典范。本次参与的艺术家们包括Dana Claxton、Douglas Coupland、Stan Douglas、Angela Grossmann、Ken Lum（林荫庭）、Martha Sturdy和Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun。
该项目由温哥华华端口基金会带领，将提供231个社会房屋和可负担房屋单位，并得到多级政府的支持，包括卑诗省房屋局和加拿大按揭及房屋公司，以及来自华埠基金会的3千万元。此项目将设立李邓丽娟小区卫生中心，该中心占地5万平方尺，由温哥华沿岸卫生局营运，提供关键及便利的医疗资源，以满足华埠和市中心东端居民的特殊需求，包括专门的精神健康和癖瘾治疗。
「喜士定西街58号将成为温哥华和加拿大各地可负担房屋的典范，这是一个以小区和关怀为核心的项目，」温哥华华端口基金会主席李佩珍表示。「这批加拿大顶尖的艺术家献出他们的作品为我们筹集额外资金，对我们来说绝对是一份厚礼。这个项目亦证实了一个小区同心协力可以创造的力量，为将来的同类型合作铺平了道路。」
受到这项重要项目的启发，着名艺术家Angela Grossmann和Martha Sturdy在温哥华的艺术家社群中发起了号召，邀请曾在这个小区生活、工作和学习过的艺术家参与捐赠艺术品，获得艺术家们的热烈回应支持。这批慷慨捐赠的杰出艺术品，将在今秋一个现场拍卖活动中拍卖，所得将用作支持喜事定西街58号项目。每幅捐赠艺术品的复制版，将融入成为建筑物设计的一部分。
值得注意的是，2022年代表加拿大参加威尼斯双年展的Stan Douglas，从他的个人收藏中捐赠了最具代表性的摄影作品之一《 Every Building on 100 West Hastings 》。Stan Douglas的作品涉及广泛的历史研究，捕捉主体在地的重要时刻，反映社会变革。这幅高达16 尺的彩色成像作品，是由21幅精心捕捉的影像，以数码技术拼接而成，刻意省略交通与人物，利用空旷街道呈现多层次叙事，这件着名作品被收藏在休斯敦美术馆（MFAH）和温哥华美术馆（VAG），十多年来未曾公开出售。
此外，2023年Audain Prize得主、温哥华Hunkpapa Lakota（Sioux）艺术家Dana Claxton提供了一件独特的作品，名为《NDN Ironworkers Tool Still Life》，该作品来自她于2018年在温哥华美术馆的个展Fringing The Cube。
本次重要的收藏共包括七幅作品，其中包括由Douglas Coupland、Ken Lum（林荫庭）、Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun、Martha Sturdy和Angela Grossmann为该项目专门创作的新作品。
「艺术家们在献出每一项作品时，都以喜事定西街58号项目的居民作考虑。将一件艺术品纳入建筑物内，对艺术家来说是莫大的荣幸，但也代表我们肩负的责任同样重大。」Grossmann表示。「将艺术融入建筑物，可以转变一个地方的观感，因此我认为我们必须邀请曾在这个小区生活和工作过、以作品观照社会议题的艺术家，来参与是项计划。」
「我认为艺术家们将这次计划视为是一个表达内心想法的机会。」Grossmann补充表示。
加拿大两位文化巨匠，Michael Audian和已故的Phil Lind，为这一计划的名誉联合主席。这批收藏将于11月7日星期二在温哥华美术馆进行预览展示，现场拍卖将于11月9日星期四在温哥华华埠基金会「金秋慈善晚宴」举行，地点位于温哥华费尔蒙酒店。所筹得的资金将全数用于支持喜士定西街58号项目，部分资金将用作在大堂及每层安装这批艺术品的复制品。对于无法参加活动的人士，可以使用书面竞投或电话竞投的选项。想了解更多信息，请联系Tom Gautreau（getithandled@me.com）。

When they approached me about donating a work, they were expecting something more modest but given the proximity of 58 West Hastings to the 100 Block it felt like an opportunity for the neighbourhood to retain the memory of itself within itself when it looks radically different today.”

There are several reasons why I support this project. I grew up in the Chinatown area. I spent a lot of time as a young person in the Downtown Eastside. My grandfather was a cook at the Only Seafood. My father waited on tables at the Smilin’ Buddha. My mother worked at a laundry on Keefer near Main. The people of the area have been forsaken. They deserve better and this project is an all too rare hopeful step.

I love Chinatown! I have been visiting, shopping and eating in the area for 40 years. I love Bamboo Village on Pender Street and whenever my relatives visit, my sister and I take them there. Everyone always wants to go to Vancouver’s famous Chinatown!? My grandfather was Chinese – Charlie Soo – I never had the opportunity to meet him and uncertain if he ever came to Vancouver. But what I do know, the community also has strong ties to indigenous people and I am honoured to be part of this project that wants to lift people up, maintain a friendly neighborhood, and provide for all.??
