Michael Lee launches BC Liberal Party leadership campaign

Vancouver, BC – Last night, on Wednesday, June 9, MLA Michael Lee officially launched his campaign to become the next leader of the BC Liberal Party and bring together diverse voices to rebuild the party.
Speaking from his Vancouver-Langara riding, Lee shared his passion for community service and seeks to bring his extensive experience to the leadership, with priorities to restore trust, lead with integrity, truly listen, and unite the party.
He was joined by several hundred supporters from across BC who tuned into a Facebook Live launch event hosted by broadcaster Tarannum Thind at the Lee family home. Supporters also heard from his wife Christina Yan-Lee, Lee’s children – Justine, Graham, and Andrea – about their dad’s values, and from MLA Ben Stewart and former BC Young Liberals president Akhil Sehgal about his ability to unite the party and lead the rebuilding efforts ahead. Lee was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in 2017 and has since served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Affordable Housing and as Opposition Critic for Justice, Indigenous Relations, and Transportation, Infrastructure and TransLink. He also served as the Chair of the Opposition Caucus Committee on the Electoral Reform Referendum.
Prior to his election, Lee worked as a business lawyer with companies across the province in technology, the resource sector, and other key industries. Before obtaining his law degree at the University of Victoria, he worked in his youth as a political staffer in Vancouver and Ottawa to the Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell while she served as Minister of Justice and Minister of National Defence. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science with a focus on environmental regulations.
Lee has served as the past Chair of the Board of Directors of Arts Umbrella and Alumni UBC. He has also served as a past Vice-Chair and Board member of Science World British Columbia, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. and Leadership Vancouver. He is a past Board member of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver Foundation, the Justice Education Society of BC, Sustainable Cities International and the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association.
